Letter: Bogus bonuses

Am I alone in failing to grasp why anyone in a well paid job should expect in addition to their income a huge bonus (your report, 21 December?

Neither the politicians nor the financial gurus seem to get it. The general public are deeply and justifiably angry and infuriated by those apologists suggesting that lack of an obscene bonus means an exodus of those same operators whom we the taxpayers have already had to bail out.

The vast majority of the working population are paid for their input, but the question of a bonus just does not arise.

Do teachers, firemen, servicemen and many others expect a huge bonus? Certainly not.

They do their jobs to the best of their ability at a rate of pay judged realistic and subject to periodic review.
