Letter: Beyond belief

Am I alone in noticing an increase in the overtly religious tone of pronouncements from senior Scottish political figures? Nicola Sturgeon tells us it is our "sacred" duty to look after the elderly. Does that mean humanists and atheists are excused?

Following on the heels of Kenny MacAskill's invocation of a "higher power" in his most high-profile decision to date we can, no doubt, look forward to more pandering to faith communities as the two main parties accelerate their efforts to be considered the definitive party of God in a crude attempt to mobilise block votes.

The ethical duty to care for the elderly is not particular to those who practise religion. Have faith in that.
