Letter: Best of capitalism

Alan Hinnrichs (Letters, 22 November) should get out more.

Believing, as he does, that the millions of electors who voted Conservative at the last election were "cold-hearted 19th-century robber barons" and "who attend Royal Ascot" is utterly ridiculous, as is Catriona Clark's observation that "you can't take capitalism out of the Tories" (Letters, same day).

Capitalism creates wealth that all can enjoy, particularly with regard to pensions.

Labour and the Lib Dems have discarded any notion of the state owning and running every-thing. Nationalised industries were over-manned, badly managed and heavily subsidised by the taxpayer and generally produced goods or services that few wished to purchase.

The Tories are a social democratic party and value the best of capitalism.
