Kneed to know

I couldn’t agree more with Jimmy Armstrong, who  argues that the correct wearing of kilts is above the knee, with socks at the top of calf muscles (Letters, 26 July).

The designers of the Scottish Commonwealth Games team parade outfit should have studied the video clips of Andy Stewart, who always looked so smart in the kilt.

In Gaelic we have a  word luideach (pronounced “lootch-uch”) which means untidy. In my opinion that is how the “below the knee” brigade look. I would also like to point out that medal-winning competitors are being presented with a cuach – Gaelic for drinking cup – which is pronounced “coo-uch” not “cwaych”.
