The James bond

THE new young royal and third in line to the throne has now been named (your report, 25 July), but what a shame that he was not given the names of one of the great Scottish kings; James, Robert or Malcolm.

Instead he has been awarded a name that is both safe and predictable, in this case George, which is forever associated with the house of Windsor and the German Hanoverian dynasty.

Considering that the Union was founded with the Scottish King James, in times when that same Union is under a very real threat, it would perhaps have been appropriate to see loyalty recognised with a more sensitive choice of name.
