Irish nightmare

Once again the SNP cheerleader Alex Orr tries to tell us Ireland is wealthier than Scotland (Your report, 2 June).

I am concerned he talks up Ireland and talks down Scotland. Ireland has seen more than 150,000 people emigrating in the past three years – including 21,000 to Scotland last year. Unemployment in Ireland is double Scotland’s, and the cuts to welfare there make Tory austerity seem painless in comparison. And Ireland is heading for a second euro-bailout. Mr Orr must realise the euro Celtic Tiger dream has turned to nightmare.
