Hot up here

I moved to Edinburgh from London a few years ago and it’s only during the summer months that I have any nostalgia for living down South.

I don’t mind cold winters; they’re supposed to be cold and Scotland is excellent at “cosy”. But last weekend’s dreadful weather was truly depressing.

However, as soon as the weather turns good, all is forgiven because (midges aside) good weather in Scotland surpasses the best weather anywhere else. Having said that, and to paraphrase W Somerset Maugham, “it’s not enough that you succeed, your friends must fail”.

The best weather here must happen when it’s raining in England.
