Homes for jobs

What goes around comes around and can bite you. Our new work and pensions secretary suggests unemployed people living in council homes could be offered incentives to move to areas where there are jobs (your report, 26 June).

He went on to say millions were trapped in "ghettos of poverty", unable to move for fear of losing their homes. The reference to ghettos of poverty begs the questions: who created those ghettos? Could they have come about in some part due to a previous Conservative government's policy of selling council houses?

Offering incentives is all very well if there is security of employment, but is there also council housing on offer?
