Historic clash
I am surprised that Stirling has only just realised that Armed Forces Day and the Bannockburn Celebrations fall on the same weekend (your report, 19 December).
SNP councillor Scott Farmer is quoted as saying: “The announcement that Armed Forces Day was coming was a bolt from the blue,” and Pete Irvine of Unique Events states, quite rightly, that the date of the Battle of Bannockburn cannot be changed.
However, the piece accompanying your article states that Stirling was one of five bidders to host Armed Forces Day. Surely, when the bid was submitted, the dates were known.
It seems the organisers in Stirling may have been a bit too greedy and are now faced with a problem of their own making.
