Hard to believe

IT WAS indeed very helpful of Peter Jones to momentarily depart from his anti-independence script to explain how a currency union might work for an independent Scotland (Perspective, 24 December).

As much as I’m pleased to see Mr Jones’s temporary Damascene conversion, there is a disconcerting flaw in his argument in that he bases it on pronouncements made by the ratings agency Fitch. That would be the same Fitch – along with Moodies and Standard & Poor’s – that completely failed to predict the global mayhem which struck the banking system and world economy in 2008.

However, I still believe in Santa. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all Scotsman readers and letter writers.
