Green scepticism

YOU report (5 June) that up to £8 billion will be “pumped in” to the renewable energy sector in Scotland in the next five to six years.

It would be instructive to know whether some part of this enormous sum is expected to be funded by taxpayers and/or electricity consumers, or, if not, how much public money will be required to supplement the £8bn private-sector investment.

The estimate of 4,411 jobs created by the renewables industry in Scotland up to the present time is remarkably precise. How many of these jobs, I wonder, are permanent or long-term in nature?
