Greek ills

Have your say

Greece itself may be largely responsible for its present financial and economic problems but during the Second World War Germany treated the Greek population with appalling brutality.

While the present German government may not have a legal obligation to help the Greek population I certainly feel that in view of the terrible events that happened in Greece from 1940 to 1945 they have a moral responsibility to help them through these difficult times.

With due apologies for my German translation, one of Angela Merkel’s support staff said that negotiating with Greece was like playing chess with a pigeon: it knocks over the pieces, dumps on the board and struts around claiming it has won.

It reminded me of something similar being said by one of David Cameron’s people about economic conferences with our former First Minister Alex Salmond.
