Go for growth

Jim McColl’s allegation that BBC Radio Scotland is allocating “obscene” amounts of air time to football (your report, 4 October) reminds me of a conversation I had with the late Rev Dr Nelson Gray, head of religious programmes on STV some 30 or so years ago.

He claimed, with some glee, that more television time then was given to religious programmes (Morning Call, Late Call and Sunday “specials” with Harry Secombe etc) than to football.

But times change. Turn your dial, Jim. Switch over to Gardeners’ Question Time on Radio 4. Be thankful for small mercies.
