Free to educate

David Robertson (Letters, 19
November) says Scottish education is based upon moral Christian principles and values. This is untrue. The opposite is true.

Great thinkers like Hume, Ferguson, Adam Smith and James Clerk Maxwell were only able to flourish once they had been liberated from hard-line fundamentalist dogma.

Rev Robertson claims Christianity has been responsible for human progress. History would suggest the opposite. Great advances in science and technology were only possible when Biblical dogma had been abandoned.

David Robertson’s church, for example, still doesn’t believe in the theory of evolution. He says the majority of Scots believe in God and implies he is a spokesman for all of them. He speaks for 12,000 members of the Free Church. There are in fact more Jedi in Scotland.

In a democracy numbers are important. Candidates who have stood on the manifesto David Robertson proposes get less votes than the Monster Raving Looney Party.
