Food for thought

Apparently the food minister has “laid down the gauntlet” to supermarkets over stocking Scottish agricultural products. (comment, 14 February).

It seems by 2020 Scottish products, especially locally sourced, should “dominate” the shelves of our supermarkets.”

Such policy initiatives are concerning on top of the nationalist government’s “old-school Keynesian economic recipes”.

Say if the UK votes to leave Europe a nationalist government could favour a “dirigiste” Scottish agricultural industry.

Bearing in mind with “old school Keynesian economics” went resale price maintenance and producers fixed prices in the shops.

Hopefully Stephen Jardine’s reference to the “right price” is to a free market price that benefits consumers.
