I ENJOYED Dr A McCormick’s patronising reply to my letter on the economic/social concord pros and cons of the Act of Union (Letters, 7 December).

He seems to miss the point that said act had little or no effect on the prosperity and governance of this country.

I am mildly disappointed to see a “Dr” hiding behind percentages, dates and statistics – surely he is aware that 17 per cent of statistics are made up on the spot?
