Feather in her cap

I WAS devastated to read that Vicky Featherstone is leaving the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS) and joining the Royal Court Theatre in London (your report, 12 May).

In the months and years leading up to the launch of the NTS I confess I was sceptical about whether such a thing was needed, and was fearful that it would focus on established works at the expense of brave new writing.

How wrong I was.

Some of the most memorable performances I have seen in recent years – whether because of outstanding writing, societal relevance and dazzling performances, as in the case of Black Watch, or because of exciting site-specific locations, such as Roam and several other projects – have been NTS productions.

I wish Ms Featherstone luck in her new role but I wish she wasn’t going.
