Fairest of all

AS A former BBC news editor (now retired), I had the privilege to work with Newsnight Scotland presenter Isabel ­Fraser for several years (Letters, 10 August). In all that time I can never remember her displaying one iota of bias while conducting interviews, whatever the subject might be, contrary to MP Ian Davidson’s claims.

Her interviewing style can be combative, trenchant and forensic in equal measure, but above all it is fair.

I have never seen or heard her display any bias against the person she is questioning.

I have long held the belief that when politicians start to squirm when they’re being held to account, then the interviewer is probably doing their job properly.
