Fair warning of grant cut threat
I HAVE always recognised that Professor Arthur Midwinter
is not primarily an economic expert, though he is presented as such, but his latest delivery on behalf of the Union and the Labour Party makes me rather wonder if he has any degree of political expertise (News, 27 October). He says, in defence presumably of Johann Lamont’s troubled “something
for nothing” position, that he believes that after the next election the UK government will cut the Scottish block grant by £2.2 billion.
Is this forecast designed to make us want to stay part of the Union?
It is useful, however, to have confirmation, from an informed source, of what awaits us from any London government if we fail to take the opportunity to set ourselves free next year.
