Edinburgh’s shame

Ruth Shepley’s letter (11 June) about how long the trams debacle has been going on reminded me of my aunt’s recent visit to Edinburgh.

She was appalled by the state of Princes Street, and shocked that I hadn’t mentioned it to her. I suppose it’s because we in Edinburgh are like abused creatures who no longer remember what it’s like to live in a city whose streets aren’t constantly torn up.
