In the dumps

MANY taxpayers often wonder if the money they give to their council is well spent.

Nearly every week my food waste bin is missed although others on my street are collected. I then duly telephone the cleansing department’s call centre. This involves giving my postcode, address, name and, of course, date of birth, apparently in case of fraud. The call is passed on and the bin may be collected within a few days or not.

Trying to resolve the issue of a repeatedly missed bin, I recently asked to speak to a waste officer. The call centre did not know where they were, as they were out and about and seem not to have an office.

So my forlorn little bin will just have to wait again until next Tuesday’s normal collection time.

Is our council tax being well spent? Not in this Edinburgh City Council department.
