Drink culture

I read your article, “How you’re more likely to binge drink if you don’t believe in God” (31 October), with increasing incredulity. Then I read Webview (1 November) and wondered if I was the only person who had spotted the deception in the headline.

The three dominant belief systems in Scotland (Church of Scotland, Roman Catholic and atheist/agnostic) had almost identical levels of drinking. As we weren’t told the sample size or the uncertainty of the results, we can assume that their results of 39, 40 and 41 per respectively are effectively equal.

I fear this means the amount you drink has lessto do with religion than how long your family has lived in Scotland.
