Design in mind

A postscript to the article about the Royal Edinburgh Hospital’s bicentenary (3 October) could include something about the progressive attitude to interior design as encouraged by the administrators, T Drummond Hunter and his assistant David Duff in the 1960s. They endeavoured to create an environment though the choice of paint colours, textiles, furniture layout and an adventurous choice of contemporary fine art prints that would provide therapy, rehabilitation and relaxation for patients and staff.

This contributed considerably to the status of this world famous psychiatric institution.
