Cycling event safety

Sue Casely (Letters, 16 May) does the cause of motorists no good when she seeks to deny the enjoyment of more than 2,000 cyclists in the Etape Caledonia cycling event in Perthshire yesterday, by placing the convenience of a few motorists over the safety of thousands of cyclists by condemning the road closures.

She might wish to try cycling to understand the treatment of those on bicycles by a small minority of motorists. Asking for a few hours (out of an entire year) of closed roads is not excessive and is a reasonable sharing out of road use.
