Cross purposes

I found Jack Lewis’s letter (26 March) about Stella McCartney’s design of clothing for the Olympics amazing.

He wrote about the desecration of the Union Flag, but reveals his lack of knowledge and understanding of its makeup. The Union flag does not have the red cross of St David along with the cross of St George.

St David is the patron saint of Wales and its flag is a dragon and does not feature at all on the flag.

The other red cross is for Northern Ireland. These two red crosses are superimposed on the blue and white Saltire of Scotland.
