Court jouster

As Prime Minister David Cameron travels to Strasbourg to plead for the reform of the European Court of Human Rights (your report, 25 January), perhaps he should consider whether he would be better off saving the air fare and staying at home.

The European Court, like the political institutions of the EU, has its own agenda and its own instincts for self-preservation at the expense of democracy.

Meaningful reform will be resisted as the court seeks to control every aspect of our daily lives, irrespective of the detriment it causes to our country.

The only alternative is to withdraw from its tentacles and the sooner the Prime Minister realises that the better.
