Counting cost of wind power

WESTERN Isles Council approved the development of two wind turbines at Clachan on North Uist against the advice of its own planning department. The Ministry of Defence objected and now Scottish ministers have called in the plan to be considered by a reporter. The islanders are not happy because the turbines would be 100 per cent community owned and they claim the delay will cost them at least £1.5 million.

What a shame.

They had expected a profit of £200,000 a year for 15 years and £485,000 a year for the last 5 years.

A total of £5.425m which electricity consumers in the UK would be forced to pay.

Why should consumers subsidise this island community of 1,500 people?

This shows quite clearly that wind turbines are all about obtaining the lucrative subsidies with zero concern about “saving the planet”.

If two wind turbines can make a profit of £5m I shudder to think what the thousands in the UK, especially Scotland, have added to our electricity bills.
