A cold welcome

What has happened to Highland hospitality? I am embarrassed when English friends tell me they met a very cool response in shops and pubs, and are even sneered at, when their accent revealed they were English. This seemed to come mostly from the younger generation, particularly in north-eastern areas.

I come from a family that includes members of several clans, with a long history of life in the Highlands and Islands and we have always taken a pride in the Highland welcome.

Are the English to be denied this?
