Catch the snarers

The introduction of mandatory training and accreditation for all who use snares in Scotland has improved awareness and practice in the deployment of snares. They remain an important tool in conservation and wildlife management. A properly set snare is a humane restraining device.

The British Association for Shooting and Conservation in Scotland (BASC Scotland) condemns those who set snares or traps illegally and is committed to ensuring that all snares are used humanely and in accordance with the law.

If the SSPCA or anyone else has good evidence of an illegally set snare (your report, 25 September) they should, of course, approach the police.
