Call to account

Alf Young (perspective, 14 December) is, of course, correct: the directors of Royal Bank of Scotland should have been brought to book for gross miss-management of the business, as opposed to riding off into the sunset with pockets full.

However, the management team at the so-called regulator at the time, the Financial Services Authority, should also be brought to account. On many occasions it publicly admitted that its management style was flawed and did not do the job it was charged to do. It is a scandal that its staff also were able to enjoy massive salaries, obscene bonuses and even a knighthood for total incompetence and meltdown of the economic fabric of the UK. Someone, some body, needs to look at this very closely and pursue these people.
