Bye to Europe

Isobel McKendrick (Letters, 3 October) is “fairly sure” that an independent Scotland will not be part of Europe. That would be nice.

My preference would be for Scotland to be in the South Pacific, near Robert Louis Stevenson’s final resting place in Samoa, where we would be spared, in the great man’s own words, the “smarting kisses of bleak winds” and “plumping rain”.
