BBC best when it comes to Triffids

RE: JAMES Rampton's article on the BBC's remake of The Day Of The Triffids (Review, 20 December). Far from being "acclaimed", the 1962 film version starring Howard Keel has an absurdly happy ending and was panned for robbing John Wyndham's novel of its intelligently political subtext, while the original BBC series ("not so acclaimed" according to Rampton) was superb, and remains a critical classic.
