Battle cry

As a humanist and non-believer, may I say that Richard Lucas's list of values is the same as mine with one or two additions, viz tolerance, understanding and above all, a sense of humour. As for the German "Gott mit uns", this predates the Nazis by several decades and was probably no more effective in the front line than a couple of choruses of Land Of Hope And Glory. As Voltaire wrote: "God is on the side not of the big battalions, but of those who can shoot best."
