Off the ball

While not wanting to get into a "dich" with Colin Wilson on organised football competition originality (Letters, 20 January), I would insist against his pernickety documentary approach to such matters. Because a committee of people got together in a freemasonry hall in the mid-19th century doesn't necessarily mean they were responsible for starting up football as we know it today.

In fact, some would say that the FA (though that should be EFA) and the SFA have about as much to do with football as tiddlywinkers have to do with shot-putting.
