Susan Forde’s letter (1 October) is only true if the meaning of words is reversed. Low taxes and small government represent freedom while totalitarianism, by definition, means omnipotent government.
There is nothing “neo-liberal” about “big business, big banks and big debt” since big debt is the result of big government implementing mercantilist economics of the kind refuted by Adam Smith in the 18th century but sadly revived by John Maynard Keynes in the 20th century.
