Back to 50s basics

Dennis Grattan (Letters, 9 February) has a point when he suggests that unscrupulous processors might not limit their deception to beef products.

But he goes on to say that “as an ultimate precaution, housewives should be advised to go back to basics in food preparation so they know exactly what is in the food being prepared for the table”.

I now picture Mr Grattan as one of Harry Enfield’s 1950s 
public broadcasting caractures whose catchphrase is: “Women, know your limits.”
