Ash of it

Whatever else Scotland could learn from how Lithuania conducts its affairs (your report, 29 June), to judge from the accompanying photograph of Vilnius, we could pick up some tips on street cleaning.

In Edinburgh, it seems acceptable to discard cigarette ends wherever and whenever, with little sign of effective clean up measures or any attempt to penalise those responsible.

Council posters say "Edinburgh is not an ashtray". Evidence suggests otherwise.
