Copies of religious texts are burnt by American forces in Afghanistan. In football terms, an own goal. In chess terms, an unforced error. Barack Obama should issue all troops serving overseas with a laminated card bearing the text:
“Fighting overseas in two different countries simultaneously is hard work. You can help by not doing anything stupid:
1. Do not torture prisoners, do not photograph aforementioned torture and do not post images on the internet;
2. Do not burn copies of the Koran or other religious texts.
