PERHAPS David Cameron is reluctant to meet Alex Salmond in debate (your report, 10 January) because he does not want to draw attention to the fact that despite there being only one Scottish Tory MP at Westminster, Mr Cameron is nonetheless Scotland’s Prime Minister, imposing welfare cuts, the bedroom tax et al on a country which did not vote for him.

However, as his signature is on the Edinburgh Agreement, alongside that of Mr Salmond’s, it does seem appropriate that he should step up to the plate and debate the referendum issues with the First Minister.
