Alcohol rip-off

At Murrayfield at the weekend I was charged £3.90 for a 330ml bottle of lager, which I could have purchased for a fraction of the price in a supermarket (your report, 9 January). This is not so much an example of supermarkets undercharging, but more an example of the daylight robbery practised by publicans which drives people, through simple economics, to buy their drink in the likes of Tesco.

If pubs and venues like Murrayfield, where they have captive consumers, were less inclined to rip their customers off, they might see a more receptive response.
