Act of Union
was no bailout

AS IS usual with socialists, Colin Fox (News, 23 June)
attempts to rewrite history.

The 1707 Act of Union was not entered into “to bail out a financial elite who had squandered the nation’s assets”.

The primary purpose of the Act of Union was to secure
the Protestant Hanoverian succession to the throne. Anything else was subsidiary or a side effect.

Ian Stuart, Dingwall
