Talk of the Town: Something to lift Hibbees’ spirits

HEARTS fans will be first to admit they’ve had no shortage of ups and downs over the last few years.

But, that’s unlike some of their players, who at the weekend were going nowhere.

Four Tynecastle stars had to be rescued from a broken-down lift in a Holiday Inn near Aberdeen, the day before their 0-0 draw with the Dons.

Ryan McGowan was quick to capture the moment and share it with almost 10,000 followers on Twitter. The footballer wrote he was “loving the fact” that David Templeton and Andrew Driver were stuck in the lift.

The trapped players, also including Medhi Taouil, were stuck for around 20 minutes before a mechanic arrived to free them. Meanwhile, a smiling Andy Webster made fun of the players, who were stuck between floors and clearly visible through the lift glass.

Roddy looking to pin down advertising deal

HE’S undoubtedly the biggest name in Scottish wresting – even if he’s 100 per cent Canadian.

But he dons a kilt and plays the pipes, so we’ll happily claim Rowdy Roddy Piper as our own.

Now, just in case there was any doubt about Rowdy’s Caledonian credentials, he’s offered to nail his colours firmly to the mast.

He tweeted: “I want to do a commercial for IRN BRU in Scotland. Hook it up!”

Peace comes at a price

IF you thought the streets of the Capital were quieter than usual on Monday, you probably put it down to tourists having made their way home as the Fringe ends.

But with a Bank Holiday boost expected as English and Welsh workers enjoyed the day off, it seems Edinburgh priced itself out of short-term visitors.

According to TripAdvisor’s TripIndex, the Capital is the third most expensive city in the UK. It added up the cost of two people enjoying a pre-meal cocktail, a meal out, taxis and a night in a hotel and came up with £260.65.

The survey added, tantilisingly, that for the price of one night in a hotel in Edinburgh, travellers can have almost three nights in a Sheffield hotel.

Sounds like a steel.
