Talk of the Town: Lads let it hang out for Curie

FEW rugby players come off the pitch without having left their all on it – and for these lads that seems to include their kit.

The boys at Boroughmuir Rugby Club have stripped to draw attention to cancer charity Marie Curie, to thank nurses at its hospice in Fairmilehead for the support they gave to the late British Lion Bruce Hay.

They were also promoting the Scottish Skinny Dip on June 2, which will see brave souls take the plunge off the coast of East Lothian to raise funds. Big-hearted players and officials at the club have donated more than £25,000 to Marie Curie over the last six years.

Grudging thanks, Maggie

PROCLAIMERS star Charlie Reid says he owes Margaret Thatcher a thank-you – for persuading him to fight for Scottish independence.

The singing twin said: “Her politics inspired me because I disagreed with her so much. She reinforced my faith in socialism and helped to convert me to the cause of Scottish independence.

“It’s hard to overestimate. She moulded late 20th century culture in a profound way.

“I loathed her and respected her. Hard to admit!”

If you’ll know Suzie …

SHE could make the perfect gift for the teen who has to have it all.

The Scottish SPCA is looking to rehome Suzie – a pony they’ve looked after for 15 months since her elderly owner died. Call 03000 999 999 if she sounds like the pet for you.

Mum horrified by Irvine’s Mac attack

THEY say mum always knows best – and if that’s true, then Irvine Welsh fans are going to love the upcoming film of his novel Filth.

It stars James McAvoy as corrupt Capital cop Bruce Robertson.

Welsh tweeted: “Emailed my mum the trailer and her reaction was ‘What have you done to James McAvoy! He’s such a nice guy and you’ve made him horrible!’”
