Talk of the Town: Hoping for a touch of Murray magic

A POSTBOX painted gold in his honour and a probable letter from the Queen as she dishes out her next round of honours are some of the more expected tributes Andy Murray can look forward to in the wake of his Olympic triumph.

But even this one must have surprised the dog lover – after the made-famous-by-telly Battersea Dogs & Cats Home named one of its homeless pooches after the tennis hero.

Jack Russell-cross Murray is now hoping some of his namesake’s success will rub off on him as he searches for a new home.

The eight-month-old puppy was dumped on a doorstep before being brought to Battersea.

Rehoming leader Laura Weekley said: “Like Andy, he is very intelligent and clearly has his eyes on the prize, as he wants to bag a new home.”

So will the sun shine on Sean as he saddles up?

HE’S Scotland’s favourite weatherman – or so says STV as it tells Talk of the Town that Sean Batty will take on the challenge of cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh to raise money for charity.

Accompanied by Jock the dog –keeping up the pooch theme we’ve got going on here – Sean will take in stops along the way, including the Falkirk Wheel, ahead of arriving in the Capital on August 25.

Jock will then show off his skills as he takes part in a canine agility challenge at the Scottish Kennel Club Show.

Sean has been training for months while Jock has been receiving expert agility advice ahead of his first performance at Ingliston.

So given Sean’s apparent weather-predicting prowess, we can make plans for sunny weather on the day of the lengthy cycling challenge.

Even if some people out there might be hoping for rain.

The Edinburgh branch of the hotel chain Holiday Inn has identified the formula for the perfect break: three days long, and no longer than four hours from the front door – helping to ease the stresses and strains of time off work and travel.

Pay attention! The formula reads: “The Perfect Holiday = ((N(d)μ(d)-40)(r))/(b)((C(d)-μ(d) )N(d)-41/40 c) ) (41c.a)/40/2”

Here at Talk of the Town, we set our Mathematics Department on the case, and they found that what the hotel firm is really trying to tell us is: “The Perfect Holiday = Holiday Inn”.
