Talk of the Town: Gillan plans a rock ’n’ roll finale

DOCTOR Who’s flame-haired sidekick has asked to bid farewell to the hit show to the melodic strains of Led Zeppelin.

Former Telford College pupil Karen Gillan has requested Kashmir by the 70s rock gods to play out the BBC show.

Gillan is set to leave halfway through the seventh series later this year. She said: “I always think that Led Zeppelin’s hit Kashmir should be the Who theme tune. Because it has that line where it goes: ‘I am a traveller of all space and time,’ it seems appropriate.”

Plucky pensioners sought for zipslide challenge

IT’s a far cry from the usual pursuits associated with the elderly.

But plucky pensioners from Edinburgh are being challenged to give up their armchair bowls and instead take on the adrenaline-fuelled thrill-ride of a zipline across the river Clyde.

Action for Children Scotland’s Zipslide across the Clyde challenge is back for its fourth year on Saturday, March 24 – and the charity is calling for elderly adrenaline junkies to show their support by soaring over the Clyde.

And those of a nervous disposition should perhaps look away now – the zip wire is 130 feet high, 1000 feet long, and can reach speeds of up to 35mph.

SHE’S the little girl with the big voice who has been lauded by the likes of Britain’s Got Talent judge David Hasselhoff.

But now ten-year-old Saskia Eng is auditioning to a whole new audience – with a musical parody aimed at winning favour with the Tynecastle masses.

The pint-sized songstress has hit the high notes with the Hearts support by uploading her own take on the Journey classic Don’t Stop Believing on to YouTube.

Eat rugby star for breakfast

THEIR recent performances on the pitch have led to some harsh words being flung the way of the Scotland Rugby team – but for one player at least, being called a sausage is something to be proud of.

Scottish international Lee Jones was thrilled to learn that Waters the Butchers in Selkirk had created a sausage inspired by the player – who used to do deliveries for them.

The Juicy Jones went down a storm with crowds at Murrayfield over the weekend, and the player himself admitted “I’m honoured to have the sausage named after me – it’s pretty cool.”
