Talk of the Town: Fab four Beatle off to new home

WHEN they were dumped in a packing crate at the side of the road it seemed like the future was pretty bleak for four exotic turtles.

But after being rescued by the Scottish SPCA the turtles – nicknamed John, Paul, George and Ringo – are set to swap Almondell Road, Broxburn, for a special sanctuary in Oban.

The rare Mississippi turtles are to be given a luxury pad at the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary in Oban, Argyll, in its freshwater turtle sanctuary.

They will enjoy all the mod cons, with the facility, which opened last year, boasting heated tanks specially designed for species like the Mississippi map turtles.

Rev Andrew’s dancing sure to be simply divine

HE is a far cry from the stereotypical Zumba dancer.

But nonetheless, the Rev Dr Andrew Groenwald of Kirknewton and East Calder Parish Church of Scotland has pledged to get his groove on at a two-hour “Zumbathon”.

The event has been organised to raise money for the East Calder Cemetery Restoration Fund.

He said: “This is a great community, so I am challenging them to give their full support to this worthy cause. And I promise that if the hall is full, I will dance, although I’ll probably need to go to the doctor afterwards.”

Dishing the dirt on job

A CRACK team have been in pursuit of an offender after reports of “foul play”.

But this wasn’t a job for the police, it was a job for the council’s environmental team.

If you have ever wondered what they get up to when they are out and about, it’s not pretty.

The South West Team Tweeted: “Ian and Russell followed a stray dog which fouled in Saughton Mains, but unfortunately it was lost to sight. Better luck next time.”

Well, it is a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.

Dubai-land games

IT’S not the usual setting for the Highland Games but that didn’t stop them from coming to Dubai.

Activities at Heriot-Watt University’s Dubai campus included tug-o-war, weight over the bar, football, volleyball and relay races.

Students from both Edinburgh and Dubai took part in the games at Etisalat Academy, as well as principal of Heriot-Watt University, Professor Steve Chapman.
