Talk of the Town: Can Gary beat the Blackburn record?

AFTER the disappointment of losing out in the League Cup final it’s back to business as usual at Hearts.

And while the Tynecastle faithful don’t have their troubles to seek, they at least have a manager, in the form of Gary Locke. Down at Blackburn, fans have been left stunned by the dismissal of Michael Appleton after just 15 games.

He is the third manager to leave the club this season, a record which prompted one fan to suggest their followers “can only dream of having a level-headed, sensible, non-volatile owner like Vladimir Romanov.”

Of course after losing the cup and facing a tricky end to the season it remains to be seen whether Locke can reach that 15-game threshold.

Rankin’s casting couch

UPDATE on Ian Rankin’s fantasy Jason Statham heist epic – after outlining the plot, the Rebus author moved on to casting, and is looking for: “Sidekick (who dies two-thirds through), baddie (dies at end), love interest (drives Statham into sunset at end).” Hollywood will surely be calling.

Small but perfectly formed

WE all know which one is the best – but it seems the question over which is the largest city in Scotland is still a matter of confusion.

A survey by train company CrossCountry found that one in five people polled in Edinburgh believed they were living in the largest city – and, despite Glasgow actually being the largest city, almost a quarter of Glaswegians also plumped for Edinburgh.

Sorry winter tails

THE snow has been causing all sorts of bother this week – and not just for motorists. It seems the unseasonal weather has affected our furry friends. As well as Poppy the hamster, taken in by the SSPCA after being found wandering loose on a Leith street on Monday, an albino ferret was picked up running around Craigmillar. The SSPCA are now hoping to trace the owners of both.
