The Scotsman cartoon - Syria crisis

President Barack Obama last night made it clear he intends to press ahead with military action against the Assad regime in Syria over its use of chemical weapons.

The US president insisted, ahead of a crucial G20 summit in St Petersburg, that the red line the Assad regime had crossed was not his red line “but the world’s red line”.

Mr Obama’s actions look set to be backed by the French government, but he still faces fierce opposition from Russia, which will chair the G20 summit likely to be dominated by the question over intervention in Syria.

In the Commons yesterday, David Cameron warned it would be perilous to suggest Mr Obama did not respond to the Syrian regime’s use of chemical weapons.
