The Scottish Government’s policy on Europe came under attack after Spanish prime minister Mariano Rajoy suggested an independent Scotland would be “out” of the European Union.

The First Minister was forced to defend his blueprint after the Spanish leader Mariano Rajoy reportedly said: “If part of a member state becomes independent, it would be left out of the European Union and it would be good for citizens (in the EU) and Scots to know that.”
