AN effigy of Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond was set alight at a bonfire parade in southern England, despite claims that it had been removed amid complaints.

Two large models of the politician were created for the Lewes Bonfire parade, but Sussex Police said they had been withdrawn following complaints.

Meanwhile the First Minister revealed that the Glasgow Commonwealth Games came in at £25 million under budget.

The two week event was expected to cost about £472 million but eventually cost less, the First Minister told MSPs.
